In May 2022 IOM Tajikistan launched research on mental health among retuned Tajik migrant workers. The methodology of the research developed by the IOM International Research Consultant Mrs. Nataliya Zotova.
Upon receiving approval of the developed methodology by the IOM and Ministry of health and social protection of RT IOM International Research Consultant visited Tajikistan and conducted a number of the meetings including members of the Technical Working Group on mental health and migration, local research agency “M Vektor” hired by IOM for the field work. Mrs. Natalia Zotova also conducted focus group discussion with the returned female migrant workers, as well interviews with the national experts on mental health, NGOs and national specialist of the WHO Tajikistan.
On 24 May IOM International Research Consultant conducted training for the enumerators on methodology of the research, IOM requirements for conducting interviews and reporting approach. According to work plan the research report will be available for the presentation and publishing in August-September 2022.
The results of the research plan to discuss during national workshops and cross border meeting with the authorities of the main host countries: Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Mental health research among returned Tajik migrant workers is part of the project “Returned Tajik Migrants: Promoting a Multi-Stakeholder response to Mental Health and Disability Issues” supported by the IOM Development Fund.
