Theatre teaches about threats of trafficking in person

Hundreds of Istaravshan city residents learned about threats of trafficking in persons’ through a mobile theatrical show performed by known and honored actor of the Republic of Tajikistan, Alovuddin Abdulloev and his team on 28 March 2017.

The series of mobile theatrical performances were organized under the USAID Dignity and Rights Project, which is implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Tajikistan and is made possible by the American people through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

TB control among Tajik migrants leaving to the Russian Federation discussed in Dushanbe

 

 

Over half a million Tajiks left home to work abroad last year, the majority in the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan. They are attracted by the steady supply of work, high wages, absence of a visa regime, relatively low travel expenses and familiarity with the local language and culture.

The Republic of Tajikistan is one of 27 high burden countries for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis and returned Tajik migrant workers have been identified by the National TB Control Programme as one of the key vulnerable population groups.

IOM and UK Support Community Infrastructure on the Tajik-Afghan Border

IOM has opened a market in Hamadoni district, Tajikistan, with the generous support of the Government of the United Kingdom. The market is located 1 km from the border with Afghanistan and is one of nine community infrastructure projects built by IOM and funded by the United Kingdom in 2017.

The International Organization for Migration and the Tajikistan Network of Non-Governmental Organizations “Umed” signed a memorandum on cooperation to protect migrants’ rights and counter human trafficking on 21 December in Dushanbe. The signing ceremony opened the next meeting of NGO partners’ network, where the network has enriched with three new members.

Training for Tajikistan MFA staff

Employees of Tajikistan embassies and consulates abroad participated at the training on combatting human trafficking on 01-02 June 2016 in Dushanbe.

The staff of the Tajik MFA Headquarter, Embassies and Consulates of the Republic of Tajikistan, were familiarized with the role of the National Referral Mechanism in identification and referral of victims of human trafficking to relevant government and civil society organizations for assistance.

Raising awareness of Sughd youth on trafficking in persons threats

More than 10,000 youth of the Sughd province raised their awareness on trafficking in person threats and labour migrants’ rights during a series of information campaigns started on 31 March 2016 in Asht district.

The campaigns were organized by the Association “Woman and Society” under the USAID’s Dignity and Rights Project. The project is implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and is made possible by the American people through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

 

The series of three information campaigns titled “Know your rights and be safe from being trafficked” gave the youth of Asht district, Khujand city, and Bobojon Ghafurov district an outlook at the trafficking in persons problem in Tajikistan, the popular schemes criminal rings use to trick people for further trafficking and sexual and work exploitations, and ways to keep themselves and their families and friends safe from falling victims to exploitators.
